Wolverine boys basketball in convincing win over HL-O

Three players score in double figures

 

MOUNTAIN LAKE AREA (MLA) Wolverine boys basketball junior center, Regan Syverson, was 10-for-10 from the field, scoring a team high 20 points en route to a convincing home victory for the Maroon-and-Silver over Heron Lake-Okabena (HL-O), 73 to 37. Two additional Wolverines scored in double figures – junior Sam Paulson and senior Marcus Boyd – each tallying 13 points. Adding to the Wolverines’ scoring total were junior David Larson with eight, junior Drake Harder and senior Weston Osland scoring six, sophomore Abraham Stoesz with three and senior Brodie Freeman and junior Eli Karschnik, each with a pair. Paulson also dished out six assists. As a team, MLA had 23. . Under the board, Harder pulled down six rebounds. For HL-O, it was Eli Fest leading scorers with 12 points. At the half, MLA was comfortably in front by 30 points, 50-20. The Wolverines were 58% from the court, hitting on 32 of 55 shots taken, including 4 of 10 three-point tosses for 40%. From the charity stripe, MLA shooters collected on 5 of 10 opportunities for 50%  The visitors, meanwhile shot 28% (13 of 46) from the floor; 1 of 5 from three-point land for 20%. They did connect on 10 of 14 free throws (71%). The squad of Head Coach Shawn Naas also held the advantage under the basket, grabbing 33 rebounds to HL-O’s 21. That domination was most evident on defensive boards, MLA nabbing 24 to HL-O’s 4. Under their own basket, the Wolverines had 9 offensive rebounds, to 5 for their guests. They also had 10 steals and five blocks. As far as court play, the Wolverines turned the ball over 10 times, while HL-O gave it up 18. Off those HL-O turnovers, MLA nailed down 22 points. Their record early on this season stands at 1-1. The team heads to Mankato on Saturday, December 9 for a rescheduled game with Mankato Loyola. Tuesday, December 12, they return home to face Fulda.
