MLA boys break game open in second half to rumble past Raiders

Six Wolverines hit for double figures

 

 

 

 

The Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine boys broke open their home Tuesday night, December 12 game against Fulda in the second half, expanding their three-point first half cushion to an 18-point win, 95-77.

En route, six Wolverines scored in double figures, with senior Marcus Boyd leading the way with 15 points. Additional double-digit scorers were juniors Drake Harder (16) and Regan Syverson (15), along with sophomore Sam Paulson with 13 and sophomore Abraham Stoesz and senior Weston Osland, each with 10.

Matthias Kunerth hit for 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds for Fulda. Other key contributors for the Raiders were Payton Marquardt (19 points) and Leighton Gehl (16 points).

Boyd also had five of the squad’s 31 assists, with junior David Larson each dishing out four.

Harder dominated under the boards on both ends of the courts with 15 rebounds, 10 defensive and five offensive.

Osland nabbed a trio of steals, with Boyd, Harder and Stoesz each with a pair.

Stoesz stuffed Raider shooters three times, with Boyd blocking two and Paulson, one.

From the floor, Wolverine shooters were 43 of 75 for 57%, and behind the three-point-arc, were good on one-of-10 (10%). Of 13 free throws attempted, eight connected for 61%.

Fulda hit on just 25 of 61 shots made (40%), but did score on eight from three-point range of 24 attempts (33%). The guests were 70% from the charity stripe, 19 of 27.

As a team, the Maroon-and-Silver collected 46 rebounds (31 defensive, 15 offensive).

MLA also held a definite edge in second-chance points, 22 to Fulda’s six, as well as 22 points off of turnovers as compared to the Raiders’ 11.

They also had 20 assists, 11 steals and six blocked shots.

Each time had 21 turnovers.

At the half, MLA’s leads was three, 48 to 45, but in the second, the offense scored 47, while the defense held the Raiders to 32.

The Wolverines, at 3-1, host Red Rock Central (RRC) this Friday, December 15.
