Mountain Lake Floral to participate in 19th Annual Caring Rose Week

NENE SMESTAD AND Mountain Lake Floral will be participating in the 19th Annual Caring Rose Week, running from Monday, November 6 through Saturday, November 11. Patrons who bring in two cans of food for the hungry to be donated to Mountain Lake’s Loaves & Fishes Food Shelf, will be able to purchase a dozen roses for $10. Mountain Lake Floral is located at 314 10th Street North. Caring Rose Week, held the week prior to National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, is a trademark of North American Wholesale Florist of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Conceived in 1998, Caring Rose Week was created by Harry Whelden, General Manager of North American Wholesale Florist. A former food-industry businessman, Whelden took an interest in National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, which is held the week before Thanksgiving, and sponsored by the National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness – and expanded on that idea. During Caring Rose Week, florists across the central United States will gather nearly 40 tons of food for those in need.
