Wolverines roll to home gridiron win over HL-O

Take care of the Wildcats, 48-8

ALL OF THE Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine football squad’s scoring was done in the first half, but that 48-point total was more than enough as the Maroon-and-Silver rolled to a 48-8 win over Heron Lake-Okabena (HL-O) at Munson Field. The Wolverines tallied 34 first quarter points, and added 14 in the second quarter. The Wildcats’ lone score came in the fourth quarter. MLA, however, had to play much of the contest without starting sophomore quarterback Abraham Stoesz, along with senior fullback Jeff Wright, both out with injuries. To get the scoring rolling, the Wolverines’ Reynaldo Capetillo took the ball across the goal with a one-yard run. Senior Weston Osland followed with a 10-yard toss, hitting Drake Harder for the TD. The home team added two more points by blocking a HL-O punt attempt, recovering it in the end zone for a safety. Osland also took the ball in from 20 yards out for a score, and David Larson connected with AJ Vongsy for a 13-yard TD toss; MLA with a commanding 34-0 lead after the first quarter. To start the second quarter, Capetillo went 80 yards for another TD run. Before the half was done, Vongsy tallied with a three-yard run, giving the Wolverines the 48-0 lead. The Wildcats TD came late in the game on a six-yard pass from Eli Fest to Wyatt Schumacher. On the game, Capetillo rushed three times for 111 yards, while Osland tallied 56 yards, running the ball six times and connecting on three-of-five passes, compiling 54 yards. Vongsy caught three for 59 total yards. With one game left, MLA is at 4-3. The Wolverines finish the regular season at Fulda on Wednesday, October 18.
