Mildred Loewen-Quiring passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at the Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Windom.

Mildred Etta Loewen-Quiring was born on September 11, 1921 in Worthington, Minnesota. Her father served as a missionary for the American Sunday School Union, and after his premature death when she was seven-years-old, her mother and she lived on her grandfather Kam’s farm outside of Worthington until after high school graduation. Mildred and her mother were active in the Baptist Church, and she was baptized in 1933. She continued clerical studies at a local business school, and later at Northwestern College in Minneapolis for three years before working in the Twin Cities.

Mildred met and then married Harry J. Loewen, a widowed farmer with two young daughters, on October 4, 1958 in Worthington. Mildred quickly adapted to life as mother to Janlee (then age 11) and Velma (then age four) and as a farmer’s wife outside of Mountain Lake.

Mildred was a long time member at Bethel Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday School, and participated in Worship and Sew group. After moving into Mountain Lake, she and Harry served as the first directors of the Care and Share Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Store. During their 48 years of marriage, before Harry’s death in June 1999, she enjoyed harvests, travel and time with family.

On January 5, 2002, Mildred married Marvin Quiring. They were married for three years and enjoyed traveling before Marvin’s death on April 3, 2005.

Friends knew her as Millie, and remember her as always kind, gentle and willing to help. She lived in her home until she was 90-years-old, and then moved into the Good Samaritan Society of Mountain Lake-The Village in 2012 with a transition to Sogge in 2016. Mildred developed many meaningful friendships while there, and was content in life until her death.

She was loved by many friends and relatives, including son-in-law, John Blosser (Beck Unternahrer); grandchildren, Christopher (Emily Burkhalter) Blosser and Kirsten Overton; five great-grandchildren, along with step-children, Joyce (Darrell) Dick, Jerry (Tina) Quiring, Roger (Nancy) Quiring, Nancy (Mike) Mortenson and Brian Quiring, and eight step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husbands Harry J. Loewen and Marvin Quiring; stepdaughters, Janlee Blosser and Velma Loewen; grandson, Matthew Blosser and parents, Ernest and Ruby Rogers.

Memorial gifts may be given to Care & Share/10,000 Villagesw of Mountain Lake, Mennonite Disaster Service and Polycystic Kidney Foundation.
