Wolverine football drops nail-biter on-the-road

E/E scores TD in final minute to top MLA by two, 28 to 26

 

IT WAS A nail-biter on-the-road for the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine football squad at Edgerton Friday evening, September 15, the home team Edgerton/Ellwsorth (EE) club coming back in the final minute to clip the Maroon-and-Silver by two, 28 to 26. Landon Buckridge scored the game-tying touchdown with 57 seconds remaining and Jeffrey Swenson ran in the two-point conversion to seal the win for E/E. The contest was tied 20-20 at the half, with a MLA TD earlier in the fourth quarter (conversion failed) giving the Wolverines a 26-20 lead heading into the game’s waning minutes. For the Wolverines, sophomore Abraham Stoesz propelled the offense. He had a 20-yard TD pass to junior Drake Harder, a nine-yard pass for a score to senior Weston Osland and had touchdown runs of four yards and 16 yards. E/E’s Nick Paulsen had a one-yard touchdown run and Buckridge scored from three yards out in the first quarter. Swenson added a touchdown run in the second quarter. Stoesz was 12-for-24 passing for 190 yards and had nine rushes for 78 yards. Harder had four receptions for 86 yards. Jaden Bloemendaal led the Flying Dutchmen with 141 yards rushing on 22 carries, Paulsen had 123 yards and Swenson had 73. The Wolverines stand at 1-2 on the young 2017 season. MLA returns to Munson Field next Friday, September 22 to face Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. Kick-off will be at 7 p.m.
