Lake Commission holds July meeting

Address issues related to the lake, beach, trail

 

 

The Lake Commission held its regular July monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 11, in Mountain Lake City Hall. (The Lake Commission meets the second Monday of every month at 6:30 p. m.

Commission members addressed a number of issues related to Mountain Lake, the lake’s beach area and the Mountain Lake Trail.

 

Waters of Mountain Lake

+ The permit for the weed harvester expired on Saturday, July 1. A special permit was issued for the harvesting boat landing and the fishing pier to keep those areas open. That permit expires on Friday, September 1.

+ Mike James reported that the Secchi disk readings are good. the water clarity is currently 4-4½ feet. Last year at this time, it was around 2 feet. The lake is classified as having excesse nutrients and plant growth. The Secchi disk, created in 1865 by Angelo Secchi, is a plain white, circular disk mounted on a pole or line and lowered slowly down into the water in order to measure the water’s transparency.

Beach at Mountain Lake

+ A load of washed sand has been ordered for the beach area. A work night is scheduled for Wednesday, July 19, beginning at 5 p.m.

Path of the Mountain Lake Trail  

+ Dave Bucklin, Jay Schied and Rachel Yoder trimmed the trees on the north side of the trail.

+ There are cracks and dips in the trail that need to be filled. Lake Commission Chair Jason Kruser will contact Bargen Inc. of Mountain Lake to get an estimate on crack sealing.

+ Mountain Lake City Administrator/Clerk Wendy Meyer will contact Travis Martin, the part-time employee for trail maintenance, concerning spraying Round-Up on the weeds pushing up in the middle of the trail.

Emptying of the Can Bin

+ Kruser will contact commission members with the date and time to empty the can bin.
