Wolverine boys, girls participate in Section 3A Track and Field meet

Capetillo just misses chance at state runs

A contingent of Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine Boys and Girls Track Team members competed in the Section 3A Meet held yesterday (Thursday, June 1) at Paulson Field in Pipestone seeking state berths.

For the MLA boys, Reynaldo Capetillo just missed a state run in a pair of events. The Mountain Lake Public High School junior placed third in both the 200-meter dash (23.25) and the 400-meter run (50.50). In the 200, he was a razor-thin .02 seconds behind the runner-up and .11 seconds behind the 400 runner-up. Both times were personal records (PR) for Capetillo.

The top two individuals in each event, and the top two relay teams, are eligible to advance to the state meet, slated to be held at Hamline University in St. Paul on Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10.

In the boys team standings, MLA finished 14th with 16 points. Winning the team title was Montevideo with 83½ points.

The Wolverine girls finished 18th as a team with nine points. Luverne claimed team top spot with 105 points.
