Alvina Schroeder was born on January 18, 1913 in Freeman, South Dakota, the daughter of Peter and Susie (Becker) Schroeder. She attended country school and graduated from the eighth grade. She became a seamstress at an early age and kept her brothers and sisters well-clothed. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior as a youth and was a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Brethen Church (today, Cornerstone Bible Church) in Mountain Lake for most of her life. Her work years included working as a cook at the Eventide Home in Mountain Lake and at Grace Bible College (today, Grace University) in Omaha, Nebraska. She also spent a year in Juneau, Alaska helping the P. J. Nickel family.

Alvina spent much of her time caring for her younger siblings, as well as many nieces and nephews. She never married. She enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking and baking. Everyone loved her zwiebach! She was a great influence and joy to her whole family and those she worked with. All who knew her, loved her. Even though she never had children of her own, she was a mother and grandmother to many. Those who are family members, or knew her, were blessed to have had her in their lives and eagerly look forward to a reunion in heaven.

She is survived by her sister, Leona Nickel of Andover, Minnesota and her brother, Dennis (Margaret) Schroeder of Mound, Minnesota and many nephews and nieces.

Preceding her in death were her father, Peter W; her mother, Susie; her brothers, Jacob, William, Peter, David, infant brother Sylvester, Leander, Ervin and Harley and her sisters, Linda, Elsa and Delphe.
