Creativity is grist for this Mill

Things are stirring anew as Odin Craft Mill’s spring show days begin next Thursday

IN THE BEGINNING, there was the 1923 Feed Mill (including the warehouse). Clear out a few buildings, add the 1917 Montgomery Ward Home and then the 1927 Gordon Van Tine Barn. Put them all together and renovate – and then you have the Odin Craft Mill. (Photo courtesy of Odin Craft Mill)

An eclectic variety of products have been “warehoused” in the “Mill” in Odin over the course of the past several weeks in preparation for the spring shows of the Odin Craft Mill, located at 109 1st Street South.

The spring shows will run for two extended weekends – Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 27-30 and Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 4-7. Spring Show hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday – 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday – 12 noon to 5 p.m.

There will be over 155 artisans, artists and crafters from seven states. From jewelry to repurposed furniture to reclaimed art to yard art to recycled pallets to re-imagined pieces perfect for decorating the home. Contemporary and vintage home decorations all in one place. “Gourmet Grandma’s” will love the selection of canned and baked goods.

Items will be spread throughout the authentic 1923 Odin Feed Mill, complete with the old grinding and mixing rooms (and the original equipment, including the overhead hoist and old warehouse – to the 1917 Montgomery Ward house – to the 1927 Gordon Van Tine barn with its original floors, wallpaper and woodwork. This summer, the 99-year-old Montgomery Ward house saw some remodeling – which patrons will see for the first time this fall.

Additionally, lunch is available  in the Feed Mill’s old warehouse.

The Odin Craft Mill was the brainchild of Nancy Olson of Butterfield. Olson manages the operation, and during show days, it is staffed by volunteers from the surrounding area.

Autumn, Halloween, Thanksgiving and the Holiday Seasons of Christmas and New Year’s are on the horizon – with lots of treasures available to do them up right.
