Sing it Kiki Dee Band!

‘I got the music in me!

I got the music in me!

I got the music in me!

I got the music in me!

I got the music in me!

I got the music in me!’

So, too, MLPS as Music in Our Schools Month is celebrated in March

Back in 1974, the Kiki Dee Band let audiences know full well that, “I got the music in me!” as they sang the repeated chorus of the song with the same name. The group Heart reprised that idea in 1977.

Over the course of time – and across cultures – famed instrumental and vocal artists, along with not-so-famed instrumental and vocal artists – and just plain folks that like music – have lived out that feeling. All of us have the desire to make and/or enjoy music. Music can sway sentiments and bring back memories. It’s a way to communicate around the world.

The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) has designated March for the observance of Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM). All 31 days of the month, there will be a focus on music education in schools across the nation.

At Mountain Lake Public School (MLPS), the high school Haydn to Hip Hop class of Grades 6-12 Vocal Instructor Andrea Brinkman, is planning various activities throughout the month to help guide the entire K-12 student body in a celebration of music, as well as serving as educators about the importance of music in people’s lives.
