THE MOUNTAIN LAKE Area (MLA) Wolverine boys basketball squad is moving on to the next round of the Section 2A South Sub-Section basketball tournament. The Wolverines, the #2 South seed, played their game in 71 to 48 win over United South Central (USC), the seventh seed, at Mountain Lake Public School’s gym on Monday, March 6. The team moved out to a 16-point lead a halftime, 39 to 23, and although that cushion varied, MLA maintained the double-digit spread in the second half to go on to the 23-point victory. The Wolverines will now face the #3-seed, Janesville/Waldorf/Pemberton (JWP), at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, at Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial. JWP defeated St. Clair, the sixth seed, Monday night, March 6, b a score of 60 to 44. Receiving the top seed in the South is Springfield. The #1-seed in the Section 2A North Sub-Section is Cedar Mountain/Comfrey. Both of those teams won their respective Monday night games to advance.
