Joyce Halverson

A  Celebration of Life Service for Joyce E. Halverson, 73, of  Alpha, Minnesota and formerly of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, will be 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, March 11, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha with Pastor Rick Bremseth officiating. The church is located at 225 Main Street.

Burial will be in Sherburn Cemetery in Sherburn, Minnesota.

Visitation will be  from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. p.m. at the church on on Saturday. Messages of

Joyce Halverson passed away on Tuesday morning, March 7, 2017, at Sanford Jackson Hospital in Jackson, Minnesota.

Joyce Elaine Freitag was born on February 12, 1944, the daughter of Arnold and Laura (Jass) Freitag in Mountain Lake. She was baptized on March 19, 1944 at Holy Christian Church in Mountain Lake and later confirmed on March 30, 1958, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. Joyce attended, and later graduated, from Mountain Lake Public High School with the Class of 1962.

On July 31, 1965, she was united in marriage to Ronald Halverson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake.  After their marriage, they lived in Racine, Wisconsin until moving to the Mountain Lake area. They later moved up north to Hubbard, Minnesota until moving back to Mountain Lake and then to Alpha. She was a caregiver for many families in the area.

Joyce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alpha. She volunteered as an Election Judge in Alpha. Most of all, taking care of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and going to their events was very special to Joyce.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Halverson of Alpha; son, Melvin Halverson and significant other, Becky Toso of Nevis, Minnesota; two daughters, Nazrin Riehboff of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and Meridee (Jeff) Kauffman of Alpha; grandchildren, Amanda (Paul) Mathson, Tiffany Rogers, Charamea Pollock, Brandon Halverson, Morgan Halverson, Kayla (Tony) Daberkow, Josh Kauffman and fiancée, Courtney and Shania Heinrichs; seven great-grandchildren, Taden, Mary Jane, Vayda, Rhilee, Aydan, Khloee and Jaxson; brother, Virgil Freitag of Butterfield, Minnesota; sister, Shirley (Leon) Berdan of Lafayette, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Bernice Freitag of Mountain Lake and Mary Tweedt of Jackson and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

 

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Laura Freitag; sisters, Lois Meyer and Irene Meyer; brothers, Vernon Freitag and Leroy Freitag; nephew, Calvin Freitag; father-in-law, Melvin Halverson; mother-in-law, Margaret Helmers; brother-in-law, Terry Tweedt; sisters-in-law, Sharon Freitag and Carol Freitag and other relatives.
