Windom/Mountain Lake (W/ML) Cobra wrestlers had two busy days this past Thursday, February 2 and Friday, February 3.
On Thursday, they competed in three duals at New Ulm, and on Friday, closed the regular season with a match at Jackson against Jackson County Central (JCC).
Cruise past JCC in final regular season match
In their final regular match of the season, the Cobras cruised past host Jackson County Central (JCC). 45 to 18.
The first two bouts of the match set the tone for the rest of night, with Brett Willaby at 106 pounds on a technical fall, and Kade Sammons at 113, by decision.
Additional W/ML winners were Zach Spinks with a major decision at 126, Alex Borsgard winning by fall at 132, Evan Wiens with a technical fall at 138, Yanick Tade claiming a decision at 152, Jeff Wright by major decision at 160, Jesse Jepsen at 182 by decision and at 195, Jabari Carlton with a pin. Win two, lose one at New Ulm Public
At New Ulm Public on Thursday night, February 2, the Cobras won two and lose one in three dual matches.
That loss came in the opening match against Bishop Heelan High School of Sioux City, Iowa, W/ML losing 38 to 30. In this contest, two Cobras nailed falls, Brett Willaby at 106 pounds and Alex Borsgard at 132. Tacking on a technical fall win was Kade Sammons, wrestling at 120. At 126, Zach Spinks was a winner on a major decision and at 195 pounds, Jabari Carlton raised his arm after a victory on a decision. W/ML also added points on a forfeit.
The squad moved on in convincing style to crush Fulda-Murray County Central, 60 to 9. Ironically, the only lone on-mat win was Hunter Ekstrom with a fall at 126. The eight forfeits, combined with two matches that had double forfeits that propelled the Cobras to the win.
The “curtain” match on the night saw W/ML over New Ulm Public, 49 to 19. Three Cobras won by pins – Willaby at 106, Sammons at 113 and Evan Wiens at 145. Jesse Jepsen, wrestling at 170 pounds, was the victor in a major decision match-up. Winning by decision were Borsgard at 132, Jeff Wright at 160 and Carlson at 220.
