Heard from meeting guest Mountain Lake Mayor Mike Nelson that Vince Voelker had been approved as a voting member of the Lake Commission by the Mountain Lake City Council.

Learned from Dave Bucklin, commission member, that he had received a bid from Nickel Construction of Mountain Lake for projects including the Mountain Lake Golf Course pond, Lawcon Park tile, storm sewer repairs and the culvert along Mountain Lake’s north shore along the Mountain Lake Trail. He added that he had a meeting scheduled with Brett Lohrenz of Lohrenz Construction, Inc. of Mountain Lake in order to learn where the culvert placement is along that north shore location. Work will be arranged to begin in the spring as weather allows.

Learned from Commission Member Heather Funk that Mountain Lake Public High School Ag Teacher Stephen Funk was set to present a cost estimate for the lake beach area project so that funding sources can be explored. Stephen Funk’s ag classes will complete the work on the project.

Heard from Jim Peterson, commission member, that Mountain Lake City Administrator/Clerk Wendy Meyer had advised him that advertising for the Mountain Lake Trail maintenance person will be worded as employment for a private contractor in the hope that this will find more experienced applicants.

Informed that the lake aeration system was turned on on Saturday, December 31, 2016. No inspection reports and DO (dissolved oxygen) readings have been received yet from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Dissolved oxygen refers to the level of free, non-compound oxygen present in water or other liquids. It is an important parameter in assessing water quality because of its influence on the organisms living within a body of water.

Learned that, weather permitting, Bucklin and Heather Funk would work on the island trail on Monday, January 16.

Encouraged by Kruser to fill out W-4 forms. Discussion at the February meeting will include on whether or not commission members want to be paid for meeting attendance, or how to proceed.
