marvan-gohr-doneFuneral services for 78-year-old Marvan Kenneth Gohr of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, November 26, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. The church is located at 1418 2nd Avenue.

Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Kimball Township, Jackson County on Saturday at 12:45 p.m.

Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home-Mountain Lake Chapel, on Friday, November 25, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home is located at 420 10th Street North. A second visitation will be held at the church the day of the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Marvan Gohr passed away on Monday, November 21, 2016, at Sanford Medical in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Marvan Kenneth Gohr was born to Ed and Dora Gohr on April 16, 1938, at Bethel Hospital in Mountain Lake. He was baptized on May 22, 1938 and confirmed on June 29, 1952 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimball Township, Jackson County. Marvan attended country school before graduating from Mountain Lake Public School.

He was united in marriage to Mary Porisch on November 30, 1958. They lived on a farm in Kimball Township, south of Mountain Lake, where Marvan farmed with his brother, Harlan. for 40 years. He also farmed alongside his son, Greg and grandsons, Bob and Matt.

Marvan served on the Kimball Township Board and the Kimball Lutheran Church Board.

In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, traveling south, camping, fishing and golfing. He was well known by many for his wit and many “Marvan-isms” that will be passed along in his memory. Marvan’s passion was always for his family and he will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Marvan is survived by his wife, Mary Gohr; son, Greg (Kim) Gohr; daughter, Sandra Gohr-Zierke; grandchildren, Bob (Ashley) Gohr, Matt (Kay) Gohr, Alison (Valy) Kounlabout, Erin (Mike) Anderson, Trevor Borseth and Marissa (Brandon) Sterling; sister, Judy (Jim) Evenson; sister-in-law, Mayvis Gohr; 11 great-grandchildren, Danika, Chloe, Stella, Harper, Eli, Paislee, Ronin, Briggs, Leopold, Kian and Hudson and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Dora Gohr; brother, Harlan Gohr and infant brother, Eugene Gohr.
