joyce-franzFuneral services for 80-year-old Joyce E. Franz of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning, September 23, 2016, at Lakeview Gospel Church in Mountain Lake. The church is located at 1002 10th Street North.

Interment will be in Mountain Lake City Cemetery, located on 10th Street North at Midway Road.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sturm Funeral Home-Mountain Lake Chapel. The funeral home is located at 420 10th Street North. A second visitation will be held at the church the day of the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Joyce E. Franz passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society of Mountain Lake-The Village, where she had lived since November 26, 2013

Joyce Ellen Franz was born on July 25, 1936 in Mountain Lake, the daughter of Arthur and Linda (Goossen) Stadtlander. She grew up in Mountain Lake, where she graduated from Mountain Lake High School. Joyce attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, Nebraska for two years, and then Mankato State University (today Minnesota State University-Mankato) in Mankato, Minnesota, for three years.

She married Wennis Franz on June 7, 1958 at Lakeview Gospel Church and they were married for 58 years.

Joyce worked at the Bethel Hospital, Farmer’s State Bank that changed to United Prairie Bank and L & L Implement, all of Mountain Lake, for 13 years. She also worked at Kennel-Aire Inc. of Mountain Lake for 13 years. Joyce and Wennis both retired in 1998.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, golfing and baking. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, church activities, was the Sunday School Treasurer for many years and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the Mountain Lake Golf Club.

Survivors include her husband, Wennis Franz of Mountain Lake; son, Douglas (Vicky) Franz of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Karen Franz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren, Rachel Franz and Karly Franz, both of Toronto, Canada; brother, Ronald (Eileen) Stadtlander of Katy, Texas and sister, Merlys (Myron) Goertzen of Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
