Ivan Englin passed away on Friday, September 2, 2016.

Ivan Reynold Englin, born July 16, 1934 to Randolph and Elna (Bergling) Englin in the St. James Hospital. He grew up on the family farm outside of Darfur. Ivan graduated from Comfrey High School in 1952, after which he worked building anything from houses to barns to pig pens.

Ivan enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 and his tour took him throughout Europe. When he returned home, he continued to work in construction until the Rapid City, South Dakota flood of 1972 drew him to the area to help rebuild after the devastation.

In 1974, he married his wife of 42 years, Diane Shirley Melheim at the Chapel in the Hills in Rapid City. They lived happily there while Ivan built beautiful homes for many families. He remained good friends with all of them. After he laid down his hammer, he worked as a hardware sales representative in the tri-state area .

Ivan and Diane moved to Mountain Lake in 2008 and rekindled old friendships and created many new ones in the community. Ivan always took great pride in their flower and vegetable gardens. He was always ready to lend a helping hand or hammer to anyone in need. Ivan enjoyed his Swedish heritage. His pleasure was reliving memories over coffee with friends and all his relation, and, in the last years, his play dates with Lane and Aspen.

Everyone who knew Ivan, knew of his love for the John Deere brand; a love that began when his family purchased their first tractor. In fact, Ivan’s first words were “John Deere.”

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Angela, and is survived by his wife, Diane; his sister, Gloria (Dick) Hedglin and nieces, Heather, Shannon and Courtney and their families.
