Recommended Sub-Station component bids presented to Utility Commission

Total cost $200,000+ under engineer’s estimates; Council’s decision Monday

The Mountain Lake Utility Commission learned at the group’s meeting this morning (Thursday, June 2), that the lowest evaluated bids for the components for the city’s new Sub-Station, and those recommended be awarded by Mike Thielen of Utilities Plus, came in $200,000+ under engineer’s estimates.

The low evaluated bidder for a 10/14 MVA Transformer was OTC Services at $410,843, with a deliver time of 168 days. (Engineer’s estimate was $480,000). There were seven total bids.

Meanwhile, the low evaluated bid for 5KV switchgear came from States Electric at $304,060. Delivery is to be in 150 days or by December 1, 2016. (Engineer’s estimate was $400,000). Bids received totaled nine.

The low evaluated bid of $29,850 was a circuit switcher came from Ahlstrom Grid LLC. Delivery time is 112-140 days. There was only one bidder for this component. (Engineer’sestimate was $75,000).

The fourth component, a 600 amp switch, received a low evaluated bid of $7,150 from Royal Switchgear, the only bidder for this component. (Engineer’s estimate was $15,000).

Total cost for the project, compiling the bids and sales tax on each of the four components adds up to $812,616.71.

Action will be taken on these bids by the Mountain Lake City Council at its Monday, June 6 meeting.
