Along with “button count” funds

The Mountain Lake Area Foundation (MLAF) presented grant awards to six entities from the city on Wednesday, June 29. Monies were given to two groups who had submitted grant applications, with four receiving funds from “button counts.”
Those collecting funds from applications were:
+ $2,000 grant to Independent School District #173 out of the Education Project Fund #535 for the purchase of high school science classroom equipment, represented by Mountain Lake Public High School Science Teacher Jaime Banks.
+ $830 grant to the Good Samaritan Society-Mountain Lake from the Healthcare Endowed Fund #739 towards the Color Jam to held in August. Funds raised from that event will go towards the purchase of a rickshaw bike for the facility.
The additional four groups were funded by “button counts.” Patrons at Maynard’s Foods are awarded a button when for using a reusable grocery bag, which they place into one of four receptacles. These included:
+ $106 to the Mountain Lake Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), out of the Early Childhood Project Fund #731, represented by ECFE Coordinator Sherry Pankratz.$
+ $126 to the City of Mountain Lake for the Bike Project, out of the Health Endowed Fund #424, represented by Mountain Lake Economic Development/Area Chamber of Commerce Director Rob Anderson.
+ $525 to the Loaves & Fishes Food Shelf, out of the Permanent Endowed Fund #424, represented by Bertha Klassen.
+ $546 to Independent School District #173 for the indoor swimming pool, out of the Health Endowed Fund #424.
The MLAF is a 501 (c) (3), and was established in 1996 to attract and administer charitable funds for the benefit of the Mountain Lake Community. It is a permanent resource for the community and provides leadership and financial resources in the form of grants, to meet the needs and economic and social growth of the community.
The MLAF Board of Directors includes Wade Nelson, chair; Tim Swoboda, treasurer; Misty Karschnik, secretary; Vern Peterson, Brian Harder, Joyce Bucklin, Sharron Hanson, Kris Langland and Pat Weir.
