Jerry Reker resigns as half-time superintendent before official duties begin

Was set to take the reigns this July 1

According to Interim Butterfield-Odin Public School (B-OPS) Superintendent Sandi Novak, Jerry Reker, who had been hired by the B-OPS School Board at a May meeting to take over the reigns as half-time superintendent on July 1, has submitted his resignation.

That resignation was accepted by the board at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 21. Board members elected to maintain the services of Superintendent Novak through September 1.

A statement from Superintendent Novak, in part, reads, “The formal note of resignation that Jerry (Reker) wrote to the Board and myself was very broad. He thanked B-OPS for selecting him as superintendent, but that he needed to resign.”

According to Novak, Reker did visit with her in her B-OPS office the morning of the Board meeting, and that he had expressed that he thought the job would entail a great deal more attention than part-time work.

States Novak, “I think Mr. Reker would have done a great job, so it is disheartening to receive his resignation. B-OPS is a wonderful place with great students and a staff that is committed to helping them. The search will immediately begin for a different superintendent.”

She went on share that, “I appreciate the opportunity to serve this fine community. B-OPS has had its struggles, but we look forward to a sunny future. Staff and administration have put plans in place for a wonderful school year. We are committed to working hard to provide a quality education based upon improved achievement for our students.”

More information on the Board meeting and its agenda will be in a future post.
