Sounds of the Season at B-OPS

Grades 5, 6, Middle School, High School Bands, Choirs perform in concert 

 

The Butterfield-Odin Public School (B-OPS) Music Department’s grades 5, 6, Middle School (grades 7 and 8) and High School (grades 9, 10, 11 and 12) Bands and Choirs performed in a Sounds of the Season holiday concert on Thursday evening, December 14, in the school’s gymnasium.

Conducting the bands was Instrumental Director Joshua Tonkin, and directing the choirs was Vocal Director Sean Benz.

The musical menu included:

+ 5th Grade Concert Band:

  • “Good King Wenceslas,” traditional carol.
  • “Jolly Old St. Nicholas,” traditional carol.

+ 6th Grade Concert Band:

  • “Greensleeves,” traditional carol.
  • “We Three Kings,” by John H. Hopkins Jr.

+ Middle School Concert Band:

  • “Two English Carols,” by Mark Williams.
  • “Here Comes Santa Claus,” by Gene Autry and Oakley Haldeman.

+ High School Concert Band:

  • “December Sky,” by Erik Morales.
  • “Christmas Pop Sing-A-Long,” by James D. Ployhar.

+ Middle School/High School Band Combo:

  • “A Christmas Tale,” by Randall D. Standbridge. (Narrated by B-OPS Superintendent Ray Arsenault.

+ 5th Grade Concert Choir:

  • “Still, Still, Still,” arranged by John Girt.
  • “Deck the Halls,” arranged by James Rooker.

+ 6th Grade Concert Choir:

  • “Twelve Days of Christmas,” arranged by James Harris.
  • “Frosty the Snowman,” arranged by James Harris.

+ Middle School Concert Choir:

  • “Dormi, Dormi” (“Sweetly Slumber”), arranged by Mary Goetze.
  • “This Peaceful Night,” by Nancy Price and Don Besig. (Flute solo by Jennifer Perez-Ambrocio.)
  • “Masters in the Hall,” arranged by Cristi Cary Miller. (Auxiliary percussion by Lexia Sykes and McKenna Steinbrink.)

+ Senior High Concert Choir:

  • “Prepare Ye” (from the musical, Godspell), arranged by Norman Leyden. (Soloist was Kaliana Xayaphonesongkham, with Mark Kurseth accompanying on drumset.)
  • “Ave Maria,” arranged by Patrick Liebergen. (Flue solo by Charlotte Fast.)
  • “Carol of the Bells,” arranged by Patrick Liebergen.

Piano accompanist for the choirs was Karen Hiebert. Heather Tonkin was the sound technician.
