Edwin Eytzen passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society of Mountain Lake-The Village.

Edwin John (Bud) Eytzen was born in Mountain Lake on April 30, 1931, the son of John and Susan Eytzen. He grew up on the family farm near Bingham Lake, Minnesota and attended Country School through the eighth grade. Due to his father’s severe burn accident, he was not able to attend high school. He helped out working on the family farm during his high school years and was able to attend Bible School several winters.

When Ed was a young boy, he accepted Christ as his savior at Vacation Bible School. In 1956, Ed worked for two years in Denver, Colorado in 1-W service. It was here where he met his dear wife, Nettie. They were married on December 17, 1957.

He was very active in church, where he was a part of the Men’s Chorus and was a Sunday School teacher. He was also a deacon and church moderator for many years. He really enjoyed serving the Lord, which included serving as a Gideon. In the Gideon ministry, he held state and local offices as long as his health allowed it. It was a real blessing to serve together with his wife, Nettie in this ministry.his

He was also on the Mountain Lake Shipping Association Board, as well as Church School Board and was Chairman of the Care and Share Board.

Ed worked hard on the farm and enjoyed many special times with his family and went on trips to British Columbia, Canada to see Nettie’s family, which made for many special memories. In 1980, the farm was sold and Ed and Nettie moved to Delft, where they lived for 30 years. They were blessed with 58 years of marriage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Susan Eytzen and his son, Gordon Jay Eytzen.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Nettie; five daughters, Carol (David) Jahnke, St Paul, Minnesota, Marlene (Carl) Kuhns, Omaha, Nebraska, Susan (Russ) Rose, Circle Pines, Minnesota, Shirl (Michael) Trowbridge, Seville, Ohio and Virginia (Lloyd ) Entz, North Platte, Nebraska; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillian (Gene) Foth of Worthington, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews.
