Roger D. Junker

roger dean junkerFuneral services for 79-year-old Roger D. Junker of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday morning, March 11, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church of Mountain Lake. The church is located at 1217 6th Avenue.

Interment will be in Mountain Lake City Cemetery, located on 10th Street North at Midway Road.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 10, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Sturm Funeral Home-Mountain Lake Chapel, located at 420 10th Street North. a second visitation will be held at the church the day of the funeral service from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Roger D. Junker passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016.

Roger Dean Junker was born on November 8, 1936 in Mountain Lake, the son of Ben and Katherine (Janzen) Junker. He grew up and attended country school north of Mountain Lake and then Mountain Lake High School, graduating in 1954.

Roger worked for the Janzen Brothers Farm near Darfur, Minnesota, before entering the United States Army in January 1955. He was stationed in France until being honorably discharged in December 1957.

He returned to Mountain Lake and attended ag school for a couple of years. He farmed with his brother for a few years before marriage.

Roger was united in marriage to Judy Hansen on October 1, 1960 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mountain Lake. Roger farmed near Mountain Lake his whole life.

He was a life member of the Butterfield VFW, served on the Darfur Elevator Board and was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church. He loved collecting antiques, especially classic cars and tractors. He enjoyed reading, watching old movies and polka music. He especially loved going for drives around the country to check things out in the area.

Survivors include his wife, Judy of Mountain Lake; son, Randy (Brigitte) Junker of Mountain Lake; daughter, Dawn Junker of Brookings, South Dakota; two grandchildren, Natalie Junker and fiancĂ©e, Jared Karschnik and Jacob Junker and special friend, Kaylee Janssen; brothers, Delano Junker of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Vernon “Pete” (Karen) Junker of Mankato, Minnesota; sisters, Wyllean Greenfield of Sheldon, Iowa and Elgene (Clark) Fast of Mountain Lake; aunt, Esther Janzen of Mountain Lake; sisters-in-law, Carol (John) Schultz of Jackson, Minnesota and Joanne (Douglas) TenKley of Stewartville, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
