According to a report on KEYC-TV, a man is dead after a confrontation with police in Windom. It all began just before 8:30 a.m. today (Monday morning, February 8), on the 700 block of 3rd Avenue, with an “emergent call for assistance” at 8:24 a.m. following a call of a disturbance within the residence from a female.

Authorities say officers were called to a disturbance and heard shouting, and then, shots fired as they tried to enter the home. Two rounds hit the squad car parked on the street.

Police then set up a perimeter at 9 a.m., and called in the Jackson County HEAT (High Risk Entry and Arrest Team). They entered the house around 12:36 p.m. and found a 48-year-old man deceased.

A 52-year-old woman was taken to the Windom Area Hospital and treated for undisclosed injuries.

Assisting at the scene were the Windom Police Department, the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, HEAT  tactical Team, Minnesota BCA  (Bureau of Criminal Apprehension) and the Minnesota State Patrol. Blizzard conditions, with drifting snow, partially-blocked roadways and often white-out conditions, hampered the efforts of the responders who cam from outside of Windom.

Several businesses in the area were closed during the standoff, barricades were set up and officers had the residence surrounded.
