Following are a few points of important information relating to the sewer and water rates provided by the Mountain Lake Municipal Utility (MLMU).

Sewer Rates

Sewer bills for residential and rural customers are a flat monthly fee. No matter how much – or how little – sewage your household creates per month, the cost remains the same. Commercial and industrial rates are determined by the amount of sewage that enters the MLMU wasterwater system.

As of January 1, 2016, sewer rates will be increasing by 2%.

Following are the new 2016 rates (with the old 2015 rates in parenthesis):

Residential

+ $39.80 flat fee per month (2015 – $39.02 flat fee per month).

Commercial/Industrial

+ $42.45 flat fee for first 3,000 gallons of water used; $7.95/1,000 gallons based on water usage for every 1,000 gallons over 3,000 used ($41.62 flat fee for first 3,000 gallons of water used; $7.79/1,000 gallons based on water usage for every 1,000 gallons over 3,000 used).

Rural

+ $42.45 flat fee per month (2015 – $41.62 flat fee per month).

If one is gone and/or does not use any water, sewer or electric, fees assessed will be the base charges, until the property owner has MLMU disconnect all utilities. Base chargers bring each service to you home – and these rates pay for operation and maintenance of the systems. The 2016 residential billing base rates are: water – $29.23, sewer – $39.80 and electricity – $5.

Water Rates

Water utility meters area read in thousands of gallons. When one looks at the utility bill, noted will be a whole number for water usage. This number represents thousands of gallons. (7 = 7,000 gallons).
