Icy roads at time of broadside accident
Road conditions were icy on Highway #71 north of Windom early this morning (Monday, December 21), when a broadside accident occurred between a 2000 Ford Focus and a 2005 Peterbuilt semi, with the driver of the Ford, 21-year-old Cody L. Galer of Windom, fatally injured.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at 6:31 a.m., the Ford Focus was northbound on Highway #71, with the semi, driven by 29-year-old Daniel D. Kronbach of Lamberton, southbound on the same roadway. The driver of the Ford lost control and slid into the southbound lane and was struck by the semi just north of Cottonwood County Road #22.
Kronbach had no apparent injuries.
Assisting the Minnesota State Patrol were the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office and the Windom Police Department.
