It’s a ‘Jubilee’

Jubilee Farm Market & Peacemeals celebrates a grandest of grand openings

The grand opening of Jubilee Fruits & Vegetable’s newest enterprise – Jubilee Farm Market & Peacemeals – was held Wednesday, November 11. Their mission is to be – “Caring for each other, growing creatively and cultivating community. Our goal is to delight and satisfy customers by providing quality produce that is grown locally using minimal nonrenewable resources.”

Jubilee Fruits & Vegetables, LLC began five years ago as a small CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm, out of the home and garage of Steve and Judy Harder, joined now by their son, Nathan Harder, and his wife, Loida Garcia. And now, a new building – Jubilee Market & Peacemeals – is completed and will be open to everyone to come celebrate local foods and to “eat where their food lives” in southwest Minnesota. In addition to a vast array of fruits and vegetables, available for purchase are fresh bread, rolls and cookies; jams and pickles. Peacemeals offers meals – salads, soups and sandwiches – to eat in or to go.

Visitors were also able to check out the new “icicle tricycle” – a cargo food vending cart powered by bicycle. The addition was the end result of a SHIP (Statewide Health Improvement Program) grant.

The Jubilee mission is to be: “Caring for each other, growing creatively and cultivating community. Our goal is to delight and satisfy customers by providing quality produce that is grown locally using minimal nonrenewable resources.”

Natural methods of production are used while avoiding synthetic pesticides and herbicides. We continue to work towards a resilient agricultural system, which we hope will allow us to manage our farm in a more holistic manner while enjoying abundant yields of a greater diversity of products.

Two movable high tunnels receive full southern exposure of our plentiful fall and early spring sunlight to extend the growing season. A year-round greenhouse on the new market building will complete the production cycle for the deep winter months.

Seasonal produce includes:

+ Spring Harvest (May) – Asparagus, Herbs, Lettuce, Asian Greens,  Radishes, Rhubarb, Kale, Spinach and Woodland Greens.

+ Summer Harvest (June-September) – Asparagus, Beans, Beets, Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Celery,  Swiss Chard, Sweet Corn, Cucumbers, Fennel, Asian Greens, Garlic, Herbs, Lettuces, Melons, Turnips, Kohlrabi, Onions, Peas, Raspberries, Sweet and Hot Peppers, Potatoes, Radishes, Saskatoon Berries, Spinach, Squash,  Tomatoes and Woodland Greens.

+ Fall Harvest (October-December) – Apples, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Beets, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Swiss Chard, Garlic, Herbs, Kale, Leeks, Lettuces, Onions, Asian Greens, Potatoes, Radishes, Raspberries, Spinach, Tomatoes and Winter Squash, Turnips and Kohlrabi.

+ More Winter Products from the Farm – Frozen Fruits and Vegetables, Whole Grain Breads, Eggs, Jams and Pickles.

Both Jubilee operations are “always growing” and will be open all year round.
