Two fatalities in two-vehicle accident at #30/#1 (Update)

Chevrolet pickup, Volkswagen Passat collide at intersection

There were two fatalities in a 4:08 p.m. Sunday afternoon, July 26 two-vehicle broadside accident at the intersection of Highway #30 and Cottonwood County Road #1, that also injured three others.

A 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 21-year-old Brian V. Hagberg of Sanborn, Minnesota, was traveling eastbound on Highway #30 when it, and a 2000 Volkswagen Passat travelling southbound on Cottonwood County Road #1, collided.

The fatalities included the fifty-four-year-old driver of the Passat, Prakasith Souksavath of Jackson, Minnesota, as well as a forty-seven-year-old passenger, Keo Kaysonphet, male friend of the driver, of Bloomington, Minnesota. Two other passengers in the Passat, fifty-two-year-old Khonrasamith Phonevidone, a male friend of the driver and Saengdao Philaphon, a female friend of the driver, both also of Bloomington, received serious injuries. They were both transported to Windom Area Hospital.

Hagberg was taken to Windom Area Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both the Passat and the Silverado were considered total losses.

Also assisting the Minnesota State Highway Patrol were the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain Lake Police, Mountain Lake Fire and Rescue, Darfur Fire and Rescue, Mountain Lake Ambulance, Springfield Ambulance and Windom Police.
