County #1; Take me home

Being finished up this evening; Then ready for use

CREWS LAY AN asphalt patch at the connection of Cottonwood County Road #1 with Cottonwood County Road #27/Third Avenue as final touches and housekeeping are made to reopen the straight-line connection between Mountain Lake and Minnesota Highway #30.

After almost a seven-month closure, crews were putting the finishing touches on Cottonwood County Road #1 this evening (Monday, October 30), including laying an asphalt patch connecting County 1 with Cottonwood County Road #27/Third Avenue in Mountain Lake.

And then, the barricades will be taken away tonight and the straight-line connection between Mountain Lake and Minnesota Highway #30 will be reopened.

The highway, from Cottonwood County Road #27 (3rd Avenue in Mountain Lake to Minnesota Highway #30 has been closed since Monday, April 3, when work began on the reconstruction of a county bridge south of Cottonwood County Road #3 and north of 350th Street.

As well, over the course of the summer, crews completed the “mill work” on County 1, removing the asphalt to a selected depth, crushing it – and saving it – to be used again as part of the concrete mixture laid on the road.

PCi Roads of St. Michael completed the PCC (Portland Cement Concrete) overlay on the project’s approximate seven miles on Monday, October 9.

Meanwhile, within the Mountain Lake city limits, two blocks of sewer line and one block of water line between 3rd Avenue and 6th Avenue were replaced this construction season. The work included the elimination of one block of water main along County 1 between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue, along with replacing the block of water main between 3rd Avenue and 5th Avenue with new 8″ diameter main. Sewer was also be replaced, with new 12″ lines laid between 3rd Avenue to 6th Avenue, along with reconnecting service to Town’s Edge Auto.

That water and sewer work done by the city and utility was a move to pre-empt any possible future water or sewer issues in the area, as the county does not want any cutting into or digging up of the new concrete.
