MLPS Band Department holds Pops Concert
The Mountain Lake Public School (MLPS) Band Department held its annual Pops Concert on Monday evening, May 4 in the school auditorium.
The program – “Plugged In” – incorporated some non-traditional instrumental music aspects, including electric guitars, black lights and pre-recorded electronic tracks.
Performing were the Sixth-Grade Band, an 80-member Fifth-Grade-through-Junior High Band, members of the Seventh- and Eighth-Grade guitar Class, Junior High Concert Band, Junior High Percussion Ensemble, Junior High Jazz Band, Senior High Concert Band, Senior High Percussion Ensemble, Senior High Jazz Band and a joint Junior High and Senior High Concert Band.
Director of Bands at MLPS is Kurt Jahnke.

ON THE SENIOR High Concert Band’s rendition of “Paper Cut,” senior Daniel Harder’s face was illuminated by the red and blue lights on his glasses as he performed on a special instrument – paper – in this case, a crumpled piece of paper. All band members utilized pieces of paper to provide various special sound effects in the piece.
