Mountain Lake man injured in pedestrian accident

22-year-old Philip Khemphomma struck by vehicle this morning

Twenty-two-year-old Philip Khemphomma of Mountain Lake was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS)-Mankato with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle this morning, Sunday, May 17.

It happened at 2:07 a.m., at eastbound Minnesota State Highway #60 and Blue Earth County Road #117. A 2003 Volkswagon Jetta, with 19–year–old Jenna Molitor as driver, with Khemphomma as passenger was traveling eastbound on Highway #60, when it struck a deer and stopped in the right lane of traffic.

Khemphomma got out of the vehicle and walked to the left lane of traffic, where the deer was lying.

A 2008 Dodge Caravan, with driver, Anissa C. Homer, 45 of Eagle Lake, with passenger 28-year-old Darcey Nelson, also of Eagle Lake, was behind the Jetta during the incident and switched to the other lane of traffic to avoid a crash.

That is when the Caravan struck Khemphomma.

Khemphomma remains hospitalized at MCHS-Mankato with a concussion, broken ribs and other fractures.

None of the others involved were injured. No alcohol was detected.

The Jetta received moderate damage, and the Caravan had minor damage.

Assisting the Minnesota State Highway Patrol were the Lake Crystal Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance and Mayo One.
