MnDOT-featureInterstate 90 (I-90) travelers in Jackson County are advised of lane restrictions, reduced speeds and periodic ramp closures for the majority of the construction season beginning Tuesday, May 26, announced the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).

A $36 million project, consisting of both concrete and asphalt work between Round Lake and Sherburn, is being designed and built at the same time and should be complete in July 2016.

Motorists are advised to check www.511mn.org before they travel for up-to-date ramp closures and corresponding detours.

Estimated timelines of ramp and rest area closures include:

* Westbound Highway #71 ramps at Jackson closure – May 26 for a period of 21 days.

* Westbround rest area at Jackson closure – May 26 for a period of 21 days.

Information on all I-90 work in southwestern Minnesota can be found at www.dot.state.mn.us/d7/projects/I90preserve/ where the public is encouraged to sign up for e-mail updates.

Constructed in the 1970s, the I-90 pavements are nearing the end of their service life. MnDOT is investing $50 million in savings and $30 million of District 7 funds over the next few years into the rural interstate system to improve performance. The $80 million investment will improve 120 miles of some of the poorest interstate pavements and an additional $20 million will be invested to repair the bridges.
