MLPS Band Department in concert on May 4; Music, Drama, Speech awards presented May 3
The Mountain Lake Public School (MLPS) Band Department is proud to present the annual Pops Concert on Monday, May 4, beginning at 7 p.m., in the school auditorium. The program – “Plugged In” – incorporates some non-traditional aspects, including electric guitars, black lights and pre-recorded electronic tracks.
The Sixth-Grade Band will perform, “The Flintstones Meet the Jetsons,” before joining forces with the Fifth-Grade Band and Junior High Band members in an 80-member strong ensemble (that includes three drum sets!) rendition of “Rock, Roll, Row Your Boat.”
The concert will also include Seventh- and Eighth-Grade Guitar Instrumentalists playing “Let Her Go,” as well as selections by the Junior High and Senior High Jazz Bands.
Employing marching percussion instruments in “Middle School Drumline 101” and “Groovalicious” will be the Junior High Percussion Ensemble. Meanwhile, the Senior High Percussion Ensemble will dazzle concert-goers with “1.21 Jiggawatts” – lit by black lights.
“Shipwrecked,” “Aliens Landing” and a “Medley from Shrek,” as well as “Mallet Maniacs” (featuring Josiah Gardiner, Ethan Klassen and Zach Spinks) will be presented by the Junior High Band, before the concert is concluded with “Ruckus,” “Paper Cut” (played with a pre-recorded electronic track and using paper for various sound effects) and selections from the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy by the Senior High Band.

Music, Drama, Speech awards reception on Sunday, May 3
The Mountain Lake Public High School Music, Drama and Speech Departments will hold an awards reception this Sunday, May 3, beginning at 2 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.
Honored will be student letter winners, vocal and instrumental solo and ensemble participants in the upcoming Saturday, May 2 Solo/Ensemble Contest at Jackson County Central, senior awards, drama production awards, speech participation awards and other awards.
