Mountain Lake City Council okays 3-year city-wide clean-up contract

Changes to members on Planning and Zoning Commission

A three-year city-wide clean-up contract with Hometown Sanitation of Windom was approved by the Mountain Lake City Council at their Tuesday, March 17 meeting.

Mike Johnson and Tom White represented Hometown at the meeting. They presented two payment options for an extension of the contract through 2018.

Following discussion, council members agreed to pick-up on the first Saturday of May for 2016-2018. The method of payment will be determined by December 31, 2015. Johnson will provide the number of tons hauled for this year’s Saturday, May 2 2015 clean-up to the city as soon as possible to assist the council the council in selecting one of the two payment options.

In addition, Cottonwood County is now requiring that mattresses be recycled. The council discussed mattress collection and recycling fee payment for city-wide clean-up.

Hometown was asked to prepare a quote for mattress collection for the Tuesday, April 7 council meeting.

Braun resigns from commission, Hanson approved as his replacement

Council members accepted the resignation of Erland Braun from the Planning and Zoning Commission and approved Sharron Hanson as his replacement.

In other business

* Discussed committee reports on the Mountain Lake Trail extension, city website improvements, swimming pool, the Highway #60 business look and Mountain Lake City Hall modifications. Mayor Mike Nelson has been in contact with Cottonwood County personnel to erect road signs featuring the city’s current population on the north and south ends of Cottonwood County Road 1 and the east and west ends of Cottonwood County Road 27 at a cost of $768. Mayor Nelson will also get costs from the Mountain Lake Street Department. Th council approved the purchase of the four road signs.

* Reviewed the figures on the Compensation Plan schedule that were discussed the council’s Wednesday, March 4 meeting. Discussed were the compensation plan, schedule steps and aspects of the union contracts. The schedule will be available at the Tuesday, April 7 council meeting. No action was taken.
