B-OPS Board gives superintendent latitude to recommend reductions in programs, positions

Approve purchase services agreement with Madelia Public School District for business manager

The Butterfield-Odin Public School Board gave Superintendent of Schools Lisa Shellum the latitude to recommend reductions in programs and positions for the school district at the board’s regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 17.

Business manager agreement made with Madelia

The board also approved a purchase services agreement with the Madelia Public School District for the services of Business Manager Diana Busby from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015, in the amount off $39,025.70. Voting aye on the agreement were Andy Pierson, Tammy Wolle, Kristy Haseman, Diane Peterson and Joel Penner, while Renae Meyer was opposed. Abstaining from the vote due to conflict of interest was Leon Wenner.

Results of school lock-down

The board was also provided with details of building security following a school lock-down held two weeks prior to their February meeting. The Watonwan County Sheriff and law enforcement service dogs entered in the school and security measures were taken in a mock drill.

It was learned that some of the speakers in school building classrooms did not work, specifically the Dukane speakers.

In addition, the sheriff noted that letters placed on entrances would assist law enforcement to identify which door through which to enter.

One option discussed was the purchase of automatic locks and key pads.
