joan mathiowetzFuneral services for 58-year-old Joan Mathiowetz of New Ulm, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning, December 19, 2014, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Comfrey, Minnesota, located at 218 Field Street North.

Interment will be in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, located at Highway #258 North in Comfrey.

Father Andy Michels will serve as officiant at the services.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at Sturm Funeral Home-Comfrey, located at 101 North Field, as well as from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday morning, December 19, 2014.

Joan Mathiowetz passed away peacefully at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesotea on Saturday, December 13, 2014.

Joan Mary Mathiowetz was born on June 26, 1956, the daughter of Alphonse and LaDonna (Schroepfer) Mathiowetz in New Ulm. Joan attended St. Paul Catholic School in Comfrey and graduated from Comfrey Public High School in 1974. She attended and graduated from Jackson Technical College in Jackson, Minnesota and was employed by the Minnesota Department of Health in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Joan was very passionate for the elderly, and it showed in her care for the residents at Oakhill Living Center in New Ulm, where she worked for over 30 years as a professional certified nursing assistant.

She enjoyed music, crafting, scrapbooking, and following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Joan loved reminiscing family memories, but most of all, the love of her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her parents, Alphonse and LaDonna Mathiowetz of Comfrey; siblings, John (Cheryl) Mathiowetz of New Ulm, Joel (Terri) Mathiowetz of Comfrey and Julie (Corey) Schmid of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; nieces and nephews, Christopher Mathiowetz and fiancé Shana Grejtak of New London, Minnesota, Emily Mathiowetz and special friend Eric Johnson of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, Rachel (Nick) Wagner of Portland, Oregon, Anthony Mathiowetz and special friend Rebecca Waibel of Hanska, Minnesota, Annataya Schmid and special friend Johnny Zwack of Sauk Rapids and Kirby Schmid of Sauk Rapids and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Anthony and Brigitka Schroepfer and Florentine and Helen Mathiowetz.
