Blue Earth County two-vehicle accident takes life of Mountain Lake native

Alyssa Winters is fatally injured, two in second vehicle taken to Mankato hospital

A Mountain Lake native, 35-year-old Alyssa S. Winters, whose residence is listed as North Mankato, Minnesota, died from injuries suffered in a Saturday morning, December 27, 2014 accident in Blue Earth County at the intersection of Highway #14 and County Road #48. Also fatally injured was Winters’ unborn daughter. Winters and her daughter passed away late Saturday morning in Mayo Clinic Health System-Rochester, Minnesota. Winters is the daughter of DeLyle and Pam Radtke of Mountain Lake, and a 1998 graduate of Mountain Lake Public High School. Winters was on her way to celebrate Christmas with family in Mountain Lake. Winters’ dog, Walley, who was along in the car, survived the collision.

The accident occurred at 9:19 a.m., with the black top road conditions described as icy. According to the Minnesota State Highway Patrol, Winters, in a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu, was traveling northbound on County Road #48, while a 2007 Toyota Prius, driven by Dyani L. Ladd, 31, of Mankato, was heading eastbound on Minnesota Highway #14. The Malibu failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of the two roads and was hit broadside in the driver’s side area by the Prius. A passenger in the Prius was 26-year-old Anthony M. Thomson of Brownsdale, Both occupants of the Prius were transported to Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato with non-life-threatening injuries.

Also assisting on the scene were the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office, Janesville Fire Department, Janesville Ambulance Squad and Gold Cross Ambulance, along with Mayo One helicopter.

Both vehicles were totaled.
