Special events in Mountain Lake, Butterfield on November 29 focus on keeping it local

small business saturday 1Small Business Saturday arrives this Saturday, November 29 – the first Saturday after Thanksgiving – and between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize the “brick-and-mortar” businesses that are small and local.

The idea was conceived and promoted by American Express in 2010. The initiative can be followed on the Small Business Saturday Facebook page, or under the Twitter hashtags #smallbusinesssaturday and #smallbizsaturday.

To top off Small Business Saturday, events will be held on Saturday, November 29 in both Mountain Lake and Butterfield.

In Mountain Lake, a Vendor Fair Christmas Party will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Teal House, located at 602 10th Street North, as a fundraiser for Christmas in the Park. Vendors include Monica’s Jewelry, Thirty-One Gifts, Jamberry Nails, Pampered Chef, Usborne Books & More, Tastefully Simple, Teal House Treasures, Avon, Premier and Scentsy. Christmas shopping can be done – with free gift wrapping available. In addition there will be a bake sale and silent auction. Goodies will be available and door prizes will be distributed. Meanwhile, the annual Christmas tree lighting in Butterfield will be at 5:15 p.m. A free will ;soup and sandwich supper will follow at the Butterfield Fire Hall. Proceeds will go to the Butterfield Fire Department. In addition, Santa Claus will make a pre-Christmas stop, and fire truck rides will be sponsored by the fire department. A prize raffle will close the evening. You need to be present to win. The evening of events is sponsored by the Butterfield Summer Sizzler.
