small business saturday 1Small Business Saturday arrives this Saturday, November 28 – the first Saturday after Thanksgiving – and between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize the “brick-and-mortar” businesses that are small and local.

The idea was conceived and promoted by American Express in 2010. The initiative can be followed on the Small Business Saturday Facebook page, or under the Twitter hashtags #smallbusinesssaturday and #smallbizsaturday.

To kick off Small Business Saturday, Santa will be at Our Hometown Café from 9 a.m. to 11:3 a.m. on Saturday morning handing out goodie bags and collecting wish lists. The Mountain Lake Area Chamber of Commerce-sponsored event will also include treats and activities for all kids.

As well, the Chamber is once again sponsoring a Chamber Bucks Shopping Spree! Buy a $10 ticket for a chance to win $500 in Chamber Bucks (1st Prize), $250 in Chamber Bucks (2nd Prize), $100 in Chamber Bucks (3rd Prize) or $50 in Chamber Bucks (4th Prize). Must be 18 to purchase a ticket. Need not be present to win. The drawing will occur at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning at Our Hometown Café. Tickets can be purchased at Mountain Lake City Hall, from Chamber Board Members or at participating businesses. All proceeds from the raffle help to pay for community activities – such as Pow Wow.
