Ballot bulging for Mountain Lake city government elections

Up for election are mayor, two four-year council terms – and one two-year council spot

The races for the two four-year council terms – as well as the one two-year council spot – will feature a bulging ballot.

Filing for the two four-year positions to date includes incumbent Brian Schultz and challengers Dana Kass and D. David Dodge.

Two people have placed their names on the ballot to fill the one two-year council post, left open when Audi Nickel resigned his unexpired term due to a move outside of the city limits. The pair of contenders include Darla Kruser and Dean Sawatwzky.

Current council member, David Savage, is the only candidate as of yet that has filed for the two-year mayoral spot.

Expiring this fall are the terms of Mountain Lake mayor, currently held by Dean Janzen; two four-year council spots held by Brian Schultz and Andrew Ysker – as well as the two-year council opening, left vacant by Nickel.

Filing continues through 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12.

Candidates must file in person at Mountain Lake City Hall, located at 930 3rd Avenue or by mail to: Mountain Lake City Clerk, P. O. Box C, Mountain Lake, MN 56159.

The filing fee is $2.

The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 4.
