Funeral services for 91-year-old Avis Boston will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, September 6, 2014, at the Alliance Missionary Church in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. The church is located at 809 5th Avenue.
Interment will be in the Lake Benton Cemetery in Lake Benton, Minnesota.
Sturm Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Avis Boston passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014, in Windom Minnesota.
Avis Darlene Miller was born on June 28, 1923, at Lake Benton, Minnesota, the daughter of James and Grace (Sandage) Miller and grew up in Lake Benton, where she graduated from Lake Benton Public High School in 1941. She continued her education for one year at Normal Teacher training at Ivanhoe, Minnesota and became a country school teacher. Avis had a passion for education. In 1959, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from Moorhead State College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and her Master of Science degree from Moorhead State College in 1966. Avis taught elementary grades in the Detroit Lakes (Minnesota) Public School District for many years. She taught in the Marshall (Minnesota) Public School District until moving to California in 1968. Avis taught in the Los Angeles School District as a reading specialist until her retirement in 1991. She loved children and education.
Survivors include Avis her niece Ardith (Jim) Simon of Comfrey, Minnesota; nephew Rodney (Suzanne) Niemann of Bradenton, Florida; great- nieces and nephews Carrie (Doug) Harrington, Renee (Shane) Toutges and Todd (Rachel) Simon and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.
