Mountain Lake City Council rejects Kuechle offer to go to arbitration

Feral cat problems leads to public notices

An offer from Kuechle Underground, Inc. of Kimball, the general contractor for the 2012-2014 Utility/Street Project, to alter a prior agreement between the contractor and the City of Mountain Lake and go straight to arbitration was rejected by Mountain Lake City Council members at their Monday, March 17 meeting. The offer was presented to the council via a letter from Kuechle’s attorney.

At issue is the responsibility of Kuechle over problems with roadwork on Second Avenue, Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue from construction season 2012.

Feral cat issue discussed

During the public forum part of the meeting, Mountain Lake resident Gloria McKissick addressed the council with concerns about cats in her neighborhood, especially feral cats. McKissick noted in particular one feral cat in the area that has many serious diseases. She stressed that the public should be made aware of the health risks of feral cats, to which the council agreed. A notice will be placed with the net month’s utility bills, along with a public notice in the local newspaper.

McKissick also informed council members of the fact that usage of the Loaves & Fishes Food Shelf has seen a sharp rise, and donations are needed. Members suggested the names of some area agencies to contact that may be able to assist in restoring the Food Shelf’s shelves.
