Dolores “Curley” Sneer

dolores sneerFuneral services for 84-year-old Dolores “Curley” Sneer of Mountain Lake will be held Tuesday afternoon, March 18, 2014, at 1:30 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake, located at 1418 2nd Avenue. Pastor Peter Kufahl will be officiating.

Interment will be in Mountain Lake City Cemetery, located on 10th Street North at Midway Road.

Visitation will be held in the Mountain Lake Chapel of Sturm Funeral Home on Monday, March 17, 2014, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home is located at 420 10th Street North. A second visitation will be held at the church the day of the service from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Dolores Eunice Sneer passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake.

Dolores “Curley” Sneer was born on May 17, 1929 to Ole J. and Hazel (Oleson) Olson in Storden, Minnestoa and was raised on a farm outside of Storden. She was baptized on July 21, 1929 and confirmed in her faith at Amo Lutheran Church of Storden. Dolores attended country school and graduated from Storden Public High School in 1947. She graduated from Mankato Teachers College in 1950 and earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education from Mankato State University in 1973. In 1950, Dolores taught school one year in Huntley, Minnesota.

On January 7, 1951 Dolores was united in marriage to Donald Lloyd Sneer of Mountain Lake. For the next 12 years, Curley devoted herself to being a homemaker and raising her three children. In 1963, she resumed teaching for the Butterfield/Odin Public School District. Mrs. Sneer taught fourth, fifth and sixth grades during her 31 years with the district before retiring in May 1994. Dolores was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, VBS (Vacation Bible School) teacher and choir director.

Dolores was a lifetime member of the Mountain Lake American Legion Auxiliary and sang with the area “Round Table Singers.” Her hobbies included singing, reading, working crossword puzzles, writing poetry and baking – but her true joy was spending time with her family. She loved to make Sunday dinners and play games with her children and grandchildren. “Grandma Curley” was a loyal Wolverine sports fan and never missed her granddaughters’ games. Dolores loved her dogs – Fritz and Emma – and was often seen taking them out for joy rides.

She is survived by her children: Steven (Debra) Sneer of Brookings, South Dakota, Janine (James) Penner of Butterfield, Minnesotaand Thomas Sneer of St. Peter; seven grandchildren: Torrie Curtis and Adrey (Becky) Sneer, Hilary (Christopher) Bernsdorf and Marissa (Michael) Humburg, Hannah Glidden, Sean Sneer and Sophia Sneer; five great-grandchildren: Ashley Curtis, Addison and Tenley Sneer, Drew Bernsdorf, and Madelyn Humburg; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Dolores and William Reimer and many nieces and nephews.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Donald ; parents and sisters: Charlotte Stenke and LaDelle Trienen.
