Sportsman Club’s annual ice fishing contest attracts avid anglers

Mountain Lake has 161 adults, 28 kids dropping a line to try to catch ‘the big one’

The annual Mountain Lake/Odin/Ormsby Area Sportsman Club’s ice fishing contest was held Saturday, January 25 on Mountain Lake, with 161 adults and 28 kids participating

Fishing awards were presented in four categories:

Northern Pike – (None caught; winners via drawing) 1. Trent Anderson, 2. Gene Christianson and 3. Russ Hunstad

Walleye – (None caught; winners via drawing) 1. Russ Hunstad, 2. Lee Shafer and 3. Jon Clipperton

Bass – 1 (tie). Emily Bentson and Doug Bergendahl, 2. Mike Malmgren and 3. Mike Anderson

Panfish – 1. Dana Kass, 2. John Dickey and 3. Nik “Sammy” Samuelson

Children ages 12 and under also competed in a largest fish contest, with the top three largest fish caught all perch. First-place went to Layken Marcy, second to Cole Kleven and third to Lane Caldwell.

A chili feed and annual club meeting followed the contest, with door prizes, donated by local businesses, handed out.

NIK “SAMMY” SAMUELSON of Darfur brought Emily Bentson’s bass into the Mountain Lake Golf Course Club House for weighing early on in the Sportsman Club’s annual ice fishing contest on Mountain Lake this past Saturday. The catch for the Mountain Lake resident weighed in at .26 lb. – and secured a first-place tie in the category with Doug Bergendahl’s bass.
