No guarantees for Mountain Lake residents, but . . .

City’s 2014 Small Cities grant application for a new well receives preliminary ‘competitive’ rating

The rating doesn’t mean any guarantees for Mountain Lake residents, but it does mean that the city’s 2014 Small Cities grant application for a new well is “in the fight.”

Mt. Lake City Administrator Wendy Meyer recently learned that the Small Cities Development Program (SCDP) staff had reviewed 78 preliminary proposals for the 2014 funding cycle and that of the 36 determined to be “competitive” or marginally-competitive” one was the Mountain Lake well application. SCDP staff determined the Mountain Lake proposal to be “competitive” and will move on to the next round – the awarding of grant funds.

The total number 78 preliminary proposals received totaled $40 million, while the 36 gleaned from the beginning number total $19 million. Those proposals not making the cut were determined to be either “not competitive” or “not eligible.”

A total of 30 projects will receive awards, with an estimated total of $15 million in grant funds.

Pettipiece and Associates of Mankato,  hired by the city to provide community development services, are now preparing a full application for submission by the February 27 due date.
