Deadline for first of three MLPS surveys is January 10

Has been significant response; two more related to school building to follow

On Monday, November 18, voting-age residents of Mountain Lake Public School District #173 received surveys in the mail from the Southwest Marketing Advisory Center (SMAC) of Southwest Minnesota State University-Marshall as part of a research study on the attitudes and perceptions of district residents on the future of the school – as well as on any possible future building bond referendum.  The survey is being conducted to better predict the future of the school district and if a building bond referendum can be developed that will meet the needs of the community. Michael K. Rich, Ph.D. is SMAC’s executive director.

According to Dr. Rich, there has been a significant survey response, with 530 of the 1,530 surveys mailed returned – for a 35% response rate.

It is not too late for those who have note returned the survey to do so. The survey is slated to be closed on Friday, January 10,2014 so that the results can be analyzed and reported to the school board at the regular January monthly meeting.

If you have misplaced your survey, contact Dr. Rich at 507-537-7241 or e-mail him at michael.rich@smsu.edu and request another copy.

Beginning on Thursday, January 2, 2014, SMAC will have staff available to take calls at 507-537-7102 if you choose to take the survey over the telephone.

Each registered voter will have two additional opportunities to express their views concerning construction options. The second survey will focus on opinions on the priorities of what should be repaired, and how much should be spent. The third and final survey questions will link the repair priorities and related costs – and ask survey-takers to select what he or she feel should be done.

The object of all three surveys is to determine what are the view of the public and to keep the public fully informed as the process moves forward.

States Dr. Rich, “Public opinions are what directs my activities on behalf of your Mountain Lake Public School.”
