The Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverines Varsity Football squad stormed back from Friday’s close loss to the #3-ranked 9-Man team to thump visiting Heron Lake-Okabena, 50-14.

The Wolverines held the lead after the first-quarter, 8-0, and then went on to score 5 TDs in the second stanza to go into the half with a very comfortable 44-0 margin.

Those scores came on an 80-yard run by senior quarterback Levi Stoesz (16-0), 58-yard pass from Stoesz to junior AJ Vongsy (24-0), four-yard run by senior Jacob Suess (32-0), 12-yard pass from Stoesz to junior Weston Osland (36-0) and a nine-yard run by Suess (44-0).

To start the third quarter, MLA added to their cushion with another TD run by Suess, this one from four yards out (50-0).

HL-O did get a touchdown in the third, a 13-yard pass from David Volk to Hunter Zins, and again late in the fourth quarter on a 59-yard halfback option pass Kurt Obermoller to Ethan Becker. It was too little, too late, as the Wolverines dominated play on both sides of the line.

The Wolverines finish the season at 5-3, and look to the team’s Tuesday, October 25 play-off game, against an opponent yet to be determined at the time of this posting.
