Wolverine CC Invite held Wednesday

MLA Cross Country hosts area teams

The Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverines Girls and Boys Cross Country teams hosted the Wolverine Invitational at the Mountain Lake Golf Course on Wednesday afternoon, September 2.

Due to the 87-degree Fahrenheit heat and oppressively humid weather conditions, the three-mile boys and girls runs were shortened to two miles.

The Fairmont girls “ran away” with the team title with 40 points, their top finishers going 1-5-9-12-13. In second was Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial with 66, followed in turn by Jackson County Central (112), Martin County West (122), Southwest Christian (132), Adrian (182), Murray County Central/Fulda (185), United South Central (232), Windom Area (234) and Mountain Lake Area (251). Adrian and Southwest Christian ran incomplete.

It was a close finish at the chute, with Fairmont junior Jenna Pavich at 12:27 just ahead of United South Central sophomore Beth Stevermer, 12:28.

Liana Blomgren led the Wolverines, finishing 19th at 14:17. Ashley Watkins was 47th at 15:53, Arli Schlabach in 58th at 16:36, Rebekah Klassen, 59th at 16:38 and Kyla Perkins finishing 68th at 18:11.

The Murray County Central/Fulda Rebels won the boys’ team title by putting its first six runners in the top-24. The team from Fairmont finished second in the boys’ team standings with 77 points, followed by Windom Area (93), Martin County West (95), Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet (136), United South Central (137), Mountain Lake Area (178) and Jackson County Central (275).

Winning the individual boys’ honors was Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial’s senior runner John Roth.

Pacing MLA was Tommy Kraemer with his 18th-place finish at 12:04, followed by Ryan McCue in 27th at 12:16, Aaron Fast with 12:34, Andrew Fast with 12:49 and Ryan Blomgren in 13:07.

INTO THE CHUTE first for the Mountain Lake Area girls was junior Liana Blomgren. She was 19th, finishing at 14:17.
