Inaugural event on Butterfield Lake to be held this Saturday
The inaugural Winter Freeze 2015 is set for this Saturday, February 28, at Butterfield Lake, located 1/2 mile west sof Butterfield near Voss Park, but one part of the new wintertime event has been “in the works” for the past couple of months.
The “Do You Want To Build A Better Snowman Contest” began in December and runs through this Friday, February 27. The contest is open to “children” of all ages – as well as businesses. Judging will be based on creativity and originality – and will be done this Saturday – the day of the Winter Freeze. Prizes for the contest are first-place, $150; second-place, $100 and third-place, $75. Winners will be notified by telephone and posted on the Butterfield Summer Sizzler Facebook page.
The snowman-building contest provides the lead up to Saturday’s full day of family fun and games on Butterfield Lake.
The activities that day will begin at 9 a.m. with some fast-paced CMPR ice oval snowmobile hot laps, with the racing action kicking off at noon.
The Bean Bag Tournament will begin the pitch at 1 p.m., with a limit of 16 teams.
A Children’s Medallion Hunt will start at 2 p.m.
Admission is free.
The wintertime activity is sponsored by the Butterfield Summer Sizzler, with support from T & K Transport, Inc. of Buttefield; Andy’s Auto Repair & Towing of Butterfield; Hall Hydraulics and Machine of Butterfield and Buckshots Bar & Grill of Butterfield.
